Summer may have its virtue in many respects when it comes to painting – there’s more sun and for longer, which is handy when painting outdoors – but so too does winter.
Here are a few reasons why painting your home in winter actually makes sense:
1. Cooler weather means faster drying times
Believe it or not, but paint actually dries quicker during cooler weather, and often the end result is better too. In fact, if the temperature is too hot and the paint dries too quickly, it often doesn’t adhere to the surface properly – so you’ll find yourself repainting your home all over again.
2. There is less moisture in the air
As contrarian as this may sound, but during winter the air is usually less humid. When the air is humid – which it invariably is during our storm-prone Queensland summers – the water in pain cannot evaporate. If the solvents evaporate before the water does, this can cause paint to crack and peel.
3. You can pace yourself
Let’s face it, during the spring and summer months, there often too many things to do and too little time to do them. Painting your home during the winter months allows you to pace yourself, rather than rush through all of your to-do items during the warmer months. Plus, it’s a great way to ward of boredom as the days grow shorter!
4. Increases the value of your home
Spring and the lead-up to summer is typically the selling season in the property market, so if there’s even the slightest of chances that you might consider selling your home this year, painting it during the winter is a great first step. A freshly painted home is not only appealing to prospective buyers, but it increases the sale value, too.
5. Because there are no excuses not to
Most brands and types of paint are only unsuitable to use in climates that dip below 10 degrees Celsius, and since that basically never happens here in Q-L-D, you’ve no excuse not to paint your home this winter! So get your brushes out!
